A fear of heights is illogical. A fear of falling, on the other hand, is prudent and evolutionary.
~Sheldon on the TV show The Big Bang Theory.
When I was a Paramedic years ago, we used to joke that it wasn’t the fall that killed you; it was the sudden stop at the end. I found myself at a vantage point to grab this shot for the looking down theme and thought it would work nicely. I wanted to get even more of a feeling of height so I used the correct camera distortion in PSE to distort the image more and gave it a tighter crop. I also punched up the vibrancy and saturation in RAW to try and make it pop a bit more. I apologize if I induce any vertigo, but if so I think I accomplished my goal.

As the picture scrolled open, it didn’t look like much of a drop…until it finished and one saw the cab of the crane. Then it looked loke a LOOOOOOONG way! You’ve done a great job of conveying a dizzying sense of height. I think the contrast between the red of the crane and the more subdued background accentuates that effect.

This is a great shot. It does really show the height well. I thought it wasn’t too bad either till I scrolled down and whoooo, that’s it for me, I have the fear of falling yes, absolutely. I have faced it though and went up as far as the 2nd level on the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

Whoa, that really does it, Al. Nice job. I like the extra saturation on this one. By the way, I love “The Big Bang Theory” and your Sheldon quote

While I appreciate your quote, I really do not like heights. Your photo does a very good job of depicting height as my knees are weak.
The red of the crane stands out nicely against the rest of the image.

You just made me dizzy (and no, it’s not because I am a blond LOL)….you portrayed the height so well that I am shaking in my boots! (Oh yea, I was doing that already from the cold)
Very cool image!

Wow! I found that shot to be even more impressive when I clicked on it and saw a smaller view. Without having to scroll down, I could see the entire expanse of the crane at once. So how did you get that shot????

Oh Al, this is the kind of image I avoid like the plague. You did good, I got the weak knee and stomach queasies.

Wow! I get dizzy looking at it. It is a great shot that really conveys the feeling that you wanted. Wonderful.

Great perspective on this shot. I like how the lines draw your eye down, and the body feels like it follows. Well done.

OMIG, makes me dizzy just looking at it. Amazed you got up high enough to get this great shot. Height definitely is effective, wish I was brave enough to do it; yep-fear of “falling”.

And why were you up so high to begin with?

Nice shot. I never was fearful of heights but lately I get quezzy when on a cliff’s edge.
